Information and media literacy (IML) enables people to show and make informed judgments as users of information and media, as well as to become skillful creators and producers of information and media messages in their own right.

Being a Technology literate enables people to perform their daily tasks and supports their ability to make informed, responsible decisions that affect them as individuals, society as a whole, and the environment. ... In the past, society could afford to let its citizens develop their technological literacy through their daily lives.

Technological literacy prepares individuals to make well-informed choices in their role as consumers. The world is full of products and services that promise to make people’s lives easier, more enjoyable, more efficient, or healthier, and more and more of these products appear every year. A technologically literate person cannot know how each new technology works, its advantages and disadvantages, how to operate it, and so on, but he or she can learn enough about a product to put it to good use or to choose not to use it.

Technology Literacy is the ability to safely, responsibly, creatively, and effectively use appropriate technology to: communicate, access, collect, manage, integrate, and evaluate information, endeavor to predict future needs, solve problems and innovatively create solutions; build and share knowledge, improve and enhance learning in all subject areas and experiences, apply technology and critical thinking to real-world experiences, develop the knowledge and skills to adapt to changing technologies, and use technology to meet personal needs, interests, and learning styles.

Media literacy, put simply, is the ability to identify different types of media and the messages they are sending. When we speak of media, it encompasses print media, such as newspapers, magazines and posters, and theatrical presentations, tweets, radio broadcasts, etc. Being able to understand these various forms of information with an ability to make sense of what is presented is key.

Everywhere you go, you see all forms of media. From the films that you watch to the books that you read, you see different images and messages being relayed to you. Even the Google articles and Facebook posts that you browse each day continue to dominate people’s lives around the world.

Here are some of the benefits that media literacy can teach you:

It teaches you how to verify information and recognize other points of view of other people.

It encourages critical thinking.

It encourages you to share other sources of media responsibly and productively.

It informs readers how the media affect our culture.

It helps you determine and identify communication and marketing ploys.

It teaches you how to not be swayed by persuasion techniques.

Encourages you to actively participate in public affairs as a citizen.

Teaches you how to create your own content and express it without problems.

How about Information literacy?

It is important, because of resources like the Internet, finding high-quality information is now harder than ever. An information literate individual wiht their strong analytical, critical thinking and problem-solving skills can be expected to be an adaptable, capable and valuable employee, with much to contribute to the economy.

Information literacy is the ability to find, evaluate, organize, use, and communicate information in all its various formats, most notably in situations requiring decision making, problem solving, or the acquisition of knowledge.

The role of information literacy is vital for lifelong learning as it enhances the quality of education both in learning environments and in educational settings.
